A night at the musicals
Three leading actors from London’s most popular musicals – Daniel Koek, Hugh Maynard and Oliver Tompsett – will be in Bangkok early next year for the show “London’s West End Men”.
Supported by the British Embassy Bangkok and ThaiVisa.com, it’s being staged at the Thailand Cultural Centre on January 19, with the accompanying music played by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
“There is nothing more exciting than hearing two or three guys singing in harmony especially if they are bone fide leading men…by that I mean they have played leading roles on the top stages to the world’s biggest audiences, in some of the most iconic musicals,” says “London’s West End Men” producer Paul Morrissey.
We have taken the show to China and Singapore, but this will be the first time we have all been to Thailand, and we can’t wait to fly over from London. With more than 45 musicians from the prestigious Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra supporting our talented cast, I think the Bangkok audience will fall in love with the show.”
Koek performed the lead role of Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables” for two years at London’s Queens Theatre; Maynard starred in the original version and the hit revival of “Miss Saigon: at the Prince Edward Theatre London; and Tompsett played Fiyero in “Wicked” and is currently topping the bill in “Kinky Boots” at London’s Adelphi Theatre.
They will be joined on stage by special guest, Harriet Jones, who played the lead role of Christine for three years in the London production of “The Phantom of the Opera” at Her Majesty’s Theatre, and recently received rave reviews for her part in the revival of “Guys and Dolls”.
Alongside New York’s Broadway, London’s West End theatre represents the highest quality theatre in the world. According to a National Theatre report, almost twice as many people visited the theatre every year in London as watched Premier League football. According to The Telegraph newspaper London's West End contributed 51 billion pounds (Bt2,197 billion) to the UK economy last year as shoppers and theatregoers flocked to the heart of the capital.
