Residents on Maha Sarakham river warned of possible floods

The Mahasarakham Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office Thursday warned people living along the Chi River in four districts to prepare for possible overflow from the river.

The Office’s chief Tanuphon Phansawat said areas upstream saw heavy rain throughout the night due to the influence of tropical Kajiki.
Tanuphon said residents along the Chi River in Chiang Yuen, Kosum Phisai, Kanthara Wichai and Muang districts had been warned to move their belongings upstairs as the river, which is rising at the rate of 50 centimetres a day, is likely to breach its banks soon.
On Thursday morning, troops from an Army fort were deployed to help monks of Wat Pa Asirawas in Tambon Koeng of Maha Sarakham’s Muang district move their belongings upstairs.
Tanuphon said so far heavy rains and floods had affected 10,269 families living in 313 villages in seven districts of the northeastern province.
