An advocacy group is holding a rally today, calling on gatherers to wear traditional outfits of Karen or other minority or hilltribe groups to highlight the unsolved murder of Karen environmental and community activist Porlajee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen.
The rally is scheduled from 3 to 6pm on September 15 and held in front of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre at Bangkok's Pathum Wan intersection. The event is titled "Forget Me Not" and organised by Young People for Social-Democracy Movement, Thailand (YPD).
The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has confirmed that Billy had been killed by unknown assailants five years ago, probably not long after his disappearance from Kaeng Krachan Dam in Phetchaburi province, where he had been campaigning against several illegal activities in a nearby national park.
