MoU kicks off move to tidy up telecom cables

Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) Governor Sompong Preeprem and Pathum Thani Governor Pinit Boonlert signed a MoU today on regulating and tidying up telecommunication cables in all 74 provinces across the nation, starting with the central province of Pathum Thani.

“This campaign is a joint efforts between the Ministry of the Interior, Provincial Electricity Authority, and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC),” said Sompong. “PEA aims to tidy up telecommunication cables that are tangled on electricity poles along 4,810 roads nationwide, he said, adding that it would cover a distance of approximately 9,550 kilometres.

According to Sompong, PEA will coordinate the activities with telecommunication companies, who will conduct a survey along designated routes and mark cables that are in use. “Unused cables will be taken down by PEA staff, while those in use will be listed, categorised, and tidied up on the cross arms at the top of power poles,” he said.
“This project will help improve the scenery along the roads and promote safety of pedestrians and PEA’s technicians working on the power lines,” said Sompong.
“We estimate the work could be completed within June next year.”
