Nok Air in talks with authorities on flights to Betong airport

Thai airport authorities are in talks with Nok Air on starting flights to Betong airport in Yala, which is expected to be ready in 2020.

Kiatichai Chaerueangyot, the director of Airport Promotion Division, and Department of Airport staff held talks with Nok Airlines Plc’s senior vice president for flight training and operations in-flight services Captain Suthi Chulachat.
Aviation operations and aviation marketing staff also joined the meeting to discuss the service at Betong airport when it opens next year.
The Department of Airport is zooming in on Nok Air as the airline with the potential to fly to Betong airport. The airline has been given physical and technical information about flight operations at Betong airport.
Nok Air has said it will be possible to fly to Betong airport on the Don Mueang-Betong route and the Hat Yai-Betong route en route to international destinations like Langkawi in Malaysia, using Q400 aircraft.
The Department of Airport said it was pleased to support Nok Air in flying to Betong airport and other airports under the department. They are ready to give special privileges regarding marketing promotions such as reducing fees and various services to airlines to have more flights operating on the new routes and also for the convenience of passengers in various airports in the future, the department said.
Two other airlines, Bangkok Airways and Malaysia's Firefly Airline, are also reportedly interested in flying to Betong airport.
