Yala judge who attempted suicide last year shoots himself dead

A judge who attempted suicide last year, died of a gunshot wound on Saturday (March 7) in a suspected suicide.

Khanakorn Pianchana, the head of trial court in the Yala Provincial Court, shot himself in the chest at his residence in Chiang Mai’s Doi Saket district, Court of Justice Thailand secretary-general Sarawut Benjakul said.
The judge's wife was reportedly not at home during the suspected suicide. He was rushed to Doi Saket Hospital, which subsequentially sent him to McCormick Hospital in Muang district as the patient’s condition was too serious. Khanakorn later passed away there.
On Saturday morning a post appeared on Khanakorn's personal Facebook page [kanakorn.pe] saying “Good Bye”, along with images of a two-page letter.
Khanakorn tried to commit suicide in his court room in October 4, 2019 with a pistol but he survived.
A preliminary enquiry by the Office of the Judiciary revealed that personal stress was the reason behind Khanakorn’s suspected suicide attempt.
News reports and local media outlets suggested that before shooting himself, Khanakorn had posted on his Facebook page that his supervisors were trying to influence his judgement in a criminal case.
The post was later removed.
