The Interior Ministry is encouraging people to use fabric face masks to lower waste as the amount of discarded masks is constantly increasing, Local Administration Department director-general Prayoon Rattanasenee said today (March 24).

Prayoon said waste management had to be taken care of seriously in this Covid-19 crisis.
He said fabric face masks were a better alternative to lower mask litter since they can be cleaned and reused.
Meanwhile, used masks should be wrapped tightly, separated from other garbage and dumped into red bins, which are for infected waste.
The department has ordered 26,143 refuse collectors to be cautious when handling such waste by wearing face masks and gloves and cleaning their hands after finishing their tasks.
