No new Covid-19 case reported for second consecutive day

Thailand has seen no new Covid-19 cases or deaths over a 24-hour period, Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul, assistant spokeswoman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said today (June 16).

Thailand has now been without a local case for 22 days and is hoping for six more days without any new infections so it can be termed a low-risk country.

Six patients are reported to have fully recovered and returned home in the past 24 hours.

As of today, the number of confirmed cases in the country stands at 3,135. Of these, 2,444 were domestic cases and 198 found in state quarantine. Presently, 84 patients are under treatment. Some 2,993 have recovered and been discharged, and 58 people have died.

Globally, the number of confirmed cases has surpassed 8 million, increasing by 120,000 in the past 24 hours, and about 435,000 deaths. There are concerns over the situation in India, which has seen more than 10,000 cases per day. Indonesia, which is part of Asean, is seeing around 1,000 new cases daily.
