The Scala to hold farewell event from July 3-5

The Scala theatre in Thailand will bid bye to cinema lovers after farewell shows from July 3 to 5.

The "Final Touch of Memory" event will bring the curtain down on Bangkok's last standalone cinema hall.
Facebook page ‘Apex Scala’ informed on Tuesday (June 23) that the theatre’s rental contract would expire this year, and added that it had been hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis. The theatre was closed temporarily from March 18 to May 31.
The page said that "the theatre will turn all its lights on on July 3, in order to show its last beauty to visitors".
The Scala will run a special movie programme selected by Film Archive.
A historic landmark in Bangkok because of its unique architecture, located in the Siam Square area, The Scala opened in 1969.
Designed by architect Chira Silpakanok in the Art Deco style, the cinema received the ASA Architectural Conservation Award in 2012.
Siam Square was home to three theatres -- Siam, Lido, and Scala. Siam and Lido have already closed.
