Senior officials oversee construction of Krabi International Airport

The Department of Airports has urged contractors to accelerate construction and ensure completion of Krabi International Airport on Saturday (July 25) as planned.

Department deputy director-general Somkeat Maneesatid oversaw work at the site.

Attaporn Nuang-udom, Krabi International Airport director, also led airport staff and representatives from Christiani & Nielsen (Thai), TPPC Joint Venture, Southeast Asia Technology, V Engineering Consultant, and Krungthep Engineering Consultants to oversee the progress.

The progress of the construction of the third passenger terminal and the renovation of the first and second passenger terminals, including the car park building, were 24.76 per cent completed, while construction of the aircraft parking lot and the airport electric system was 85.249 per cent completed.

"After the construction of the third passenger terminal and the renovation of the first and second passenger terminals are completed, the airport will be able to accommodate 3,000 passengers per hour or 8 million passengers per year from the previous 1,500 passengers per hour, or 4 million passengers per year," he said.

"Meanwhile, the car park building and aircraft hangar will be able to accommodate 2,000 cars and 40 Boeing 737 aircraft."

He added that Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob had urged him to check various facilities and the road in front of the domestic passenger terminal to ensure it will be able to facilitate passengers.

"Also, the Transport Minister has assigned the airport director to arrange staff to take care of passengers thoroughly," he added.
