The government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported one new case over a 24-hour period on Monday (August 17), the 84th day without domestic cases since May.

The asymptomatic 24-year-old male student had returned from Indonesia and was found positive on Monday in Chonburi’s state quarantine facility.

As of Monday, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,378 (441 in state quarantine) -- 125 are under treatment, 3,194 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases was 21.8 million, up by 222,000 on Sunday, of whom 14.5 million have recovered while deaths stood at 773,000. Thailand ranks 114th among countries with most number of cases. The US has the highest number (5.56 million), followed by Brazil (3.34 million) and India ( 2.64 million).

Meanwhile, the clinical test of the Thai mRNA vaccine may be postponed beyond October as the factory in the US that the Health Ministry had booked is now operating at full capacity. Ten thousand doses of the test vaccine had been ordered from the US factory after a primate virus test showed good results.
