Stay indoors during Storm Noul, warns Meteorological chief

The Meteorological Department has set up a command centre to monitor tropical storm Noul this weekend, Somsak Khaosuwan, department director-general, said on Friday.

Department directors at the command centre on the 11th floor of the 50th Anniversary Building in Bangkok had held a video conference with Meteorological Centres nationwide to monitor the storm situation, he added.

The storm crossed into northeastern Mukdahan province on Friday afternoon and is forecast to bring heavy rain across most of the country this weekend. The Meteorological Department has advised all boats to stay ashore for the next three days.

“People living in at-risk areas should be on alert for heavy rain, flash flooding and strong winds. People can protect themselves from strong winds by not going outdoors and not sheltering under big trees or damaged buildings," Somsak said.

The public could get updates on the storm at the Meteorological Department's website, or by calling the weather forecast hotline on 1182, he added.
