Two WHO-approved vaccines procured by Thailand 'safe and effective'
The National Vaccine Institute assured on Saturday morning that the Covid-19 vaccines Thailand has procured – AstraZeneca and Sinovac – are effective.
In a post on its Facebook page, the institute said AstraZeneca had the highest booking at 2.7 billion doses, and was allowed to be used in 43 countries. This vaccine was guaranteed for Emergency Use Listing by the World Health Organisation after the product of Pfizer-BioNTech.
The institute said that AstraZeneca was prohibited from use on elders aged 65 and over. It was also effective to deal with severe condition of patients.
Regarding the Chinese product Sinovac, the institute explained that this vaccine had been tested on medical personnel and proved to be effective.
This vaccine has been approved by Azerbaijan, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey and Uruguay. In addition to medical personnel, Indonesia had injected this Sinovac to elders, who later had shown no severe side-effects.
The Thai government aimed to use the vaccine in the first phase on medical persons and those in the risk group, such as elders and people with congenital diseases.
