The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) has announced that Bangkok’s ancient Wat Iam Woranuch Temple will not be touched in the expansion of the MRT Purple Line.

The statement came in response to netizens raising concern on social media that the 237-year-old temple buildings will be torn down to make way for the new MRT Bangkunprom station.

The MRTA said the plan is to set up an entrance to the MRT station outside the temple complex near Wisutkasat intersection and that the temple has been informed of it.
