Three new fatalities bring Thailand’s Covid toll up to 104, 1,390 cases reported

Among the fatalities were a 56-year-old man and two women aged 84 and 61.

 

The man worked as a waiter at an entertainment venue in Bangkok. He tested positive on Saturday and died the following day from a stroke. He had chronic high blood pressure.

 

The 84-year-old fatality was a Bangkok resident and suffered from high blood pressure and heart disease. She succumbed to kidney failure on Friday (April 16). She had contracted the virus from her nephew who worked in an entertainment venue and the infection was confirmed on April 10.

 

The 61-year-old lived in Prachuap Khiri Khan and had apparently eaten a meal with another Covid-19 patient. Her infection was confirmed on April 10. She died on Sunday and had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes.

 

These three bring the total death toll from Covid-19 in Thailand up to 104.

 

Meanwhile, of the 1,390 new cases, the highest or 293 are in Bangkok, followed by 197 in Chiang Mai, 98 in Chonburi and 82 in Samut Prakan.

 

The total cases also include six from overseas, five of whom are Thai nationals, one of whom flew in from the United Arab Emirates, and two each from Bahrain and Malaysia. The sixth case was an Indian national flying in from India.

 

Meanwhile, 104 patients have recovered and been discharged in the last 24 hours.

 

As of Monday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 43,742. Of these, 40,502 had been contracted locally, including 20,594 who were found via proactive testing, while 3,240 were returnees.

 

So far, 28,787 have recovered and been discharged, 14,851 patients are still in hospitals and 104 have died.

 

According to Worldometer, as of 11am on Monday, the number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 141.99 million (up by 709,437), 120.53 million of whom have recovered, 18.43 million are active cases (107,439 in severe condition) and 3.03 million have died (up by 9,418).

 

Thailand ranks 109th on the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 32.40 million, followed by India 15.05 million, Brazil 13.94 million, France 5.28 million and Russia 4.7 million.

 

In the last 24 hours, 9,219 people in Thailand received their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 843 got their second shot, bringing the total number of doses administered up to 618,581.
