The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued Warning No 7 at 5am Thai time on October 10, 2026, forecasting thundershowers, gusty winds, hail and isolated heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Thailand through October 13. The TMD also warned of possible lightning strikes. 63 provinces faced weather risks on October 10, with Bangkok and surrounding areas included in the TMD’s regional outlook.
Bangkok included on October 10–11 before warnings focus on the South
The TMD’s outlook includes Bangkok and surrounding areas on October 10–11, followed by warnings confined to the South on October 12–13. The affected regions are:
- October 10: The North, lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and surrounding areas, the East and the South.
- October 11: The lower North, Central region including Bangkok and surrounding areas, the East and the South.
- October 12: The South.
- October 13: The South.
Cold air from China combines with moisture-bearing winds
The TMD attributed the unsettled weather to a high-pressure system, or cool air mass, extending from China over upper Thailand towards the end of the rainy season.
Easterly and southeasterly winds are carrying moisture from the South China Sea into the Northeast, the East and the Gulf of Thailand, according to the TMD. The southwest monsoon remains over the Andaman Sea, while a monsoon trough lies across the South.
Flash flood risks and rough seas prompt safety advice
The TMD warned that heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could cause flash floods and rapid runoff, particularly along waterways near foothills and in lowlands. Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed 2 metres in thundershowers.
The TMD also warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas and advised people to avoid open spaces, sheltering under large trees and standing near unstable billboards during storms.
Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should check their routes, proceed with caution and avoid sailing through thundershowers, the TMD said.
The TMD urged residents to plan daily activities and travel carefully during the warning period and follow further announcements. Weather information is available around the clock through the TMD website or by calling 02-399-4012, 02-399-4013 or 1182.
The TMD’s next bulletin is scheduled for 5pm on October 10.
