Magnitude-3.6 quake hits Vietnam at 10.51am on September 20
The Vietnam quake was centred 223km southeast of Khong Chiam in Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani at a depth of 7km on September 20.
A magnitude-3.6 earthquake struck Vietnam at 10.51am Thai time on Sunday (September 20, 2026), according to a preliminary report from the Earthquake Observation Division of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).
Vietnam epicentre 223km southeast of Khong Chiam
TMD located the earthquake’s epicentre approximately 223 kilometres southeast of Khong Chiam district in Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani province. The quake occurred at a depth of about seven kilometres.
TMD recorded the Vietnam earthquake’s epicentre at latitude 14.949° north and longitude 107.537° east. The preliminary report listed 16 monitoring stations as contributing to the calculation.

TMD’s preliminary report on the September 20 Vietnam earthquake did not provide information on any effects in Thailand or whether people in the country had felt shaking.
