SACIT Shapes Thailand as Regional Hub for Arts and Ceramics

From Earth to Eternity: SACIT Reimagines Thai Ceramic Heritage for a Global Future

The Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) is positioning the nation as Southeast Asia’s premier destination for artistic dialogue through the launch of the SACIT Symposium 2026. 

Taking place on August 6–7 in Ayutthaya Province, this year’s gathering centers on the theme “From Earth to Eternity: Crafting Sustainability and Continuity in Ceramic Craft,” sparking a fresh, contemporary movement at the intersection of heritage, design, and innovation.
 

Rather than treating traditional crafts as static artifacts, the symposium explores how historic techniques can adapt to modern lifestyles and global sustainability demands. 

A highlight of this year’s vision stems from a unique intergenerational collaboration between SACIT’s master artisans and the Poh-Chang Academy of Arts, where ceramic fragments have been reinterpreted into modern masterpieces using cutting-edge technology and creative design.

"This process goes beyond the preservation of traditional craftsmanship," noted Asst. Prof. Dr. Anucha Thirakanont, CEO of SACIT.

 "It demonstrates how new cultural and creative value can be generated... illustrating the continuing evolution of Thai arts and crafts, grounded in heritage while remaining responsive to the present and the future."

The two-day event serves as a vibrant cultural bridge, welcoming renowned ceramicists, scholars, and specialists from the U.S., Hong Kong, Türkiye, Japan, South Korea, Lao PDR, and Thailand. 

Renowned figures - including National Artist Somluck Pantiboon and contemporary ceramic pioneer Vasinhburee Supanichvoraparch - are presenting alongside showcase entries from the International Craft Creation Concept Award 2026 (I.CCA.2026).

Beyond academic panels, lifestyle visitors and art enthusiasts can experience live, master-level craftsmanship during international demonstration sessions. 

Attendees can witness rare global and local traditions firsthand, ranging from Thai Benjarong painting and blue-and-white decoration to Japanese Arita ware, Turkish İznik pottery, and complex double-layer pierced porcelain techniques.

Addressing the modern creative economy, SACIT has also joined forces with UNESCO to host pivotal sessions on intellectual property rights for cultural products, safeguarding traditional knowledge while expanding the international reach of local artisans. 

By weaving together education, eco-conscious practices, and cross-border networking, the SACIT Symposium 2026 sets a new benchmark for lifestyle design and sustainable craft ecosystems across Asia.
