Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast across parts of northern, northeastern, central and eastern Thailand on Thursday (August 20, 2026), raising the risk of flash floods, forest run-off and overflowing waterways.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued the warning in its 24-hour forecast covering the period from 6am on Thursday to 6am on Friday (August 21).
The conditions are being driven by a monsoon trough extending across the upper North and upper Northeast into a strong low-pressure cell over Hainan Island, China. A fairly strong south-westerly monsoon is also prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents have been advised to watch for dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and in low-lying communities.
