Nan airport remains open as airlines help flood-affected passengers

Nan Nakhon Airport remains open despite flooding, while Thai AirAsia and Nok Air offer free flight changes and travel credits to affected passengers.

Nan Nakhon Airport remained open and flights were operating normally on Thursday (August 20), despite flash flooding across Nan province, while Thai AirAsia and Nok Air introduced flexible travel measures for affected passengers.

Deputy Transport Minister Phattrapong Phattraprasit expressed concern for residents affected by the floods and instructed the Department of Airports to provide full assistance and ensure the highest possible level of safety for travellers.

The ministry also directed Nan Nakhon Airport and the airlines serving it to assist passengers who were unable to travel or needed to alter their plans because of the flooding.

Thai AirAsia offers free rescheduling or travel credit

Thai AirAsia passengers on FD flights may change their travel date once on the same route without charge. The new journey must take place within 30 days of the original travel date and is subject to seat availability.

Passengers may instead convert the value of their ticket into an AirAsia Credit Account, which will remain valid for two years from the date the request is approved.

Nok Air allows date and route changes

Nok Air passengers on DD flights may change their travel date once within one month of the original departure date, with both the change fee and any fare difference waived.

They may also change their journey once to a nearby airport within the same one-month period without paying a change fee or fare difference.

Alternatively, passengers may retain the value of their ticket as travel credit for use within 90 days.

The measures are subject to the conditions set by each airline, and affected passengers should contact their carrier directly.

Travellers advised to allow three to four hours

The Transport Ministry and Department of Airports advised passengers travelling through Nan Nakhon Airport to check road conditions and traffic before setting out and allow at least three to four hours to reach the airport.

Danai Ruangsorn, director-general of the Department of Airports, said officials had been assigned to monitor the flood situation around the clock, assess any impact on airport operations and issue immediate updates in an emergency.

Passengers can follow updates through the Facebook pages of the Department of Airports and Nan Nakhon Airport or contact the airport on 054-710-270.
