TMD forecasts intense rain and possible floods in North and Northeast

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued its fourth warning at 5pm on Thursday (September 3, 2026), forecasting heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand from September 4 to  7.

People are advised to check whether they are in areas at risk of flash floods and run-off.

TMD forecasts heavy rain from Friday to Monday as Saudel stays outside Thailand

Some areas of upper Thailand, particularly the North and Northeast, are forecast to experience heavy to very heavy rain from Friday to Monday.

The conditions are being caused by a monsoon trough extending across the North and upper Northeast, combined with a moderate southwesterly monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

People in affected areas should beware of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could cause flash floods and run-off.

Particular caution is advised in the Mekong River basin, on foothills near waterways and in low-lying areas.

People should avoid routes prone to repeated flooding, especially in low-lying locations where temporary waterlogging may occur.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Saudel has made landfall in Guangdong province, China, and is expected to weaken into a tropical depression.

Travellers to the area are advised to check weather conditions before departure.

The storm will not enter Thailand.

• Southwesterly winds of 10–20 kilometres per hour.

Central region

• Thundershowers across 40% of the region.
• Rain mainly in Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi.
• Minimum temperatures of 23–26 degrees Celsius.
• Maximum temperatures of 34–36 degrees Celsius.
• Southwesterly winds of 10–20 kilometres per hour.

Bangkok and surrounding provinces

• Thundershowers across 60% of the area.
• Minimum temperatures of 26–27 degrees Celsius.
• Maximum temperatures of 34–36 degrees Celsius.
• Southwesterly winds of 10–25 kilometres per hour.

East

• Thundershowers across 60% of the region.
• Isolated heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi and Trat.
• Minimum temperatures of 24–27 degrees Celsius.
• Maximum temperatures of 33–35 degrees Celsius.
• Southwesterly winds of 15–35 kilometres per hour.
• Waves of 1–2 metres, rising above 2 metres during thundershowers.

South on the east coast

• Thundershowers across 40% of the region.
• Rain mainly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
• Minimum temperatures of 23–26 degrees Celsius.
• Maximum temperatures of 34–35 degrees Celsius.
• Southwesterly winds of 15–35 kilometres per hour.
• Waves of about 1 metre, rising to 1–2 metres offshore and above 2 metres during thundershowers.

South on the west coast

• Thundershowers across 60% of the region.
• Isolated heavy rain in Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.
• Minimum temperatures of 23–26 degrees Celsius.
• Maximum temperatures of 31–34 degrees Celsius.
• From Phuket northwards, southwesterly winds of 20–35 kilometres per hour, with waves about 2 metres high and rising above 2 metres during thundershowers.
• From Krabi southwards, southwesterly winds of 15–35 kilometres per hour, with waves 1–2 metres high and rising above 2 metres during thundershowers.
