Heavy rain with strong winds and hail hits several Bangkok areas

Heavy rain brought strong winds and hail to parts of Bangkok, prompting warnings over poor visibility, slippery roads and weather-related hazards.

  • Heavy rain, strong winds, and hail hit several Bangkok districts on Thursday afternoon, including Lat Phrao, Chatuchak, and Ratchada.
  • The severe weather created hazardous conditions for road users due to poor visibility and slippery surfaces, with rainfall accumulation reaching 91.5mm in Taling Chan.
  • Authorities warned residents in affected areas to beware of strong gusts and hail striking buildings or vehicles and advised them to take shelter indoors.

Heavy rain hit several parts of Bangkok at 4pm on Thursday (October 1, 2026), while strong winds and large amounts of hail alarmed residents in some locations.

Reporters identified Lat Phrao, Chatuchak, Lak Si, Ratchadaphisek and Mo Chit as areas affected by the rain, with hail reported in Ratchada, Lat Phrao and Chok Chai 4.

Road users were warned of poor visibility and slippery roads.

People in areas at risk were also advised to beware of strong gusts and hail striking buildings or vehicles.

The Bangkok Flood Control Center reported light to moderate rain at 5pm in Thawi Watthana, Taling Chan, Bang Phlat, Chatuchak, Lak Si, Chom Thong, Phra Khanong, Bang Na, Prawet, Bang Kho Laem and Bang Khun Thian districts.

The Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology offered the following safety advice:

  • Shelter indoors. Close doors and windows securely to limit exposure to hail and strong winds.
  • Keep away from glass. Avoid areas near doors, glass windows, glass roofs and skylights, as hail could shatter glass and cause injuries.
  • Avoid rooftops and balconies. Move indoors because these areas are directly exposed to hail and storm winds.
  • Stay away from unstable structures outdoors. Buildings or structures could collapse onto people during a storm.
  • Beware of lightning. Avoid objects that conduct electricity and umbrellas with metal components when outdoors.
  • Avoid using electrical appliances during thunderstorms. Lightning could damage equipment and endanger users.
  • Request assistance or report incidents. Call the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s safety hotline on 1784 or contact the department through LINE at @1784DDPM.
