The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued Warning No 2 at 5pm on October 7, 2026, reiterating its alert for isolated heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand during October 9–13. Thundershowers, gusty winds and hail are also forecast.
The TMD’s second advisory, reference 248/2026, follows its morning warning and retains the same regional timetable, with Bangkok and surrounding areas covered on October 10–12 and the South throughout the five-day period.
The TMD’s No 2 advisory places Bangkok and surrounding areas within the heavy-rain risk zone for three consecutive days, while affected regions elsewhere vary by date. The regional outlook is as follows:
The TMD warned that heavy and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods, overflowing waterways and landslides, particularly along waterways near foothills and in low-lying areas. People are advised to avoid open areas, sheltering beneath large trees or standing near unstable billboards during thundershowers and gusty winds.
The TMD attributed the unsettled weather to a high-pressure system extending from China over upper Thailand and a monsoon trough lying across the upper South. The southwest monsoon is also prevailing over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed two metres in areas affected by thundershowers, according to the TMD’s second advisory. All vessels are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid thundershower areas.
The TMD’s next advisory is scheduled for 5am on October 8.
