Southern provinces face continued rain on October 12–13

The TMD forecasts heavy rain on October 12 in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

Cold air and monsoon conditions drive unsettled weather

The TMD attributed the unsettled conditions to a high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China extending over upper Thailand towards the end of the rainy season.

Easterly and southeasterly winds are carrying moisture from the South China Sea into the Northeast, East and Gulf of Thailand. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues over the Andaman Sea, with a monsoon trough extending across the South.

“People should beware of thundershowers, gusty winds, heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and sudden runoff, particularly on foothill slopes near waterways and in low-lying areas where waterlogging may occur,” the department warned.

The TMD also advised people to avoid open spaces, large trees and insecure advertising signs during storms.

The department urged the public to plan travel and daily activities carefully and monitor further weather announcements. Information is available through the TMD website and around the clock on 1182, 02-399-4012 or 02-399-4013.
