Bangkok warns residents of possible water level rise in Saen Saep Canal

Residents in five subdistricts are urged to monitor canal levels as Bangkok coordinates with the Royal Irrigation Department to drain water from Khlong 13.

  • The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has warned residents of a potential water level rise in the Saen Saep Canal.
  • The rise is caused by the opening of a sluice gate to drain water from Khlong 13 into the Saen Saep Canal.
  • Residents in the Nong Chok, Khlong Sam Wa, and Min Buri districts are specifically urged to monitor the water levels, particularly in low-lying areas.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) urged residents along Saen Saep Canal in Nong Chok, Khlong Sam Wa and Min Buri districts to remain vigilant and closely monitor canal water levels on Thursday (October 15, 2026).

Following coordination with the Royal Irrigation Department, the BMA said it was necessary to open the sluice gate at the downstream end of Khlong 13 (lower section) to 30cm at 10am to drain water from Khlong 13 in Nong Chok district and Lam Luk Ka district in Pathum Thani into Saen Saep Canal.

The notice warned that canal levels could rise in the hour after it was issued.

Advice for residents

Residents are asked to keep following updates and warnings from the BMA and district offices.

They should watch for changes in canal water levels, particularly around homes beside the canal and in low-lying areas.

Anyone noticing unusual conditions or experiencing impacts from canal water levels can contact their local district office to coordinate assistance.

The BMA’s Drainage and Sewerage Department will closely monitor conditions and water levels and coordinate with the Royal Irrigation Department on water management to maintain vigilance and minimise potential impacts on residents.
