Bangkok faces road closures on Ratchadaphisek and outbound Ploen Chit on October 16 for the IMF–World Bank meetings, with possible bus diversions.

  • The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center MRT station will be closed due to the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
  • The closure will occur on October 16, 2026, for seven hours, from 9am to 4pm.
  • During this time, trains will pass through the station but will not stop to pick up or drop off passengers.

Organisers of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)–World Bank Group Annual Meetings have announced a seven-hour metro station closure and road restrictions in Bangkok on October 16, 2026. The measures affect Queen Sirikit National Convention Center station and sections of Ratchadaphisek and Ploen Chit roads.

IMF–World Bank Group meeting organisers said the measures were intended to strengthen security and facilitate the meetings at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).

Queen Sirikit station to close from 9am to 4pm

The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center station on Bangkok’s Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) network will temporarily close from 9am to 4pm on October 16. Trains will pass through without stopping to pick up or set down passengers.

Ratchadaphisek and Ploen Chit sections to close

IMF–World Bank Group organisers announced the following road closures for October 16:

  • Ratchadaphisek Road will close in both directions between Asok Montri and Rama IV intersections on October 16.
  • Outbound Ploen Chit Road will close between Ploen Chit and Nana intersections from 8am to 1pm on October 16.

Bus routes 2, 40, 48, 501 and 508, along with other services using the affected roads, may be diverted during the October 16 restrictions.

Residents retain access during QSNCC restrictions

Residents and people working within the QSNCC security zone will be able to enter and leave as normal, according to the organisers’ October 16 arrangements.

IMF–World Bank Group delegates carrying meeting badges and vehicles displaying authorised placards will be allowed to enter through designated screening checkpoints.

Private cars and taxis carrying IMF–World Bank Group delegates can use designated pick-up and drop-off points outside the security perimeter.

IMF–World Bank Group organisers urged the public and media representatives to plan their journeys in advance and avoid roads around QSNCC on October 16. All times are Bangkok local time.
