Typhoon Champi heads towards Taiwan with no current threat to Thailand

Typhoon Champi is moving northwest across the western Pacific towards Taiwan, with its current forecast track showing no indication that it will enter Thailand, according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).

In an update issued at 2.40pm on October 18, the TMD said Champi remained over the western Pacific and was expected to continue moving northwest towards Taiwan.

Based on the projected track at the time of the update, the storm was not expected to move into Thailand.

However, the department cautioned that both the path and intensity of tropical cyclones can change as weather conditions develop.

The public has been advised to continue following official TMD updates for the latest information on Champi’s movement and strength.
