Thailand face Australia in Asian Championship opener

Thailand begin the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship against Australia at 1pm on August 21, with live coverage via AIS Play.

Thailand’s women’s national volleyball team will face Australia at 1pm on Friday (August 21) in their opening match of the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship.

The 23rd AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship will be held from August 21–30 at the Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium in Tianjin, China, bringing together 12 of Asia’s leading teams.

The tournament carries significant qualification implications. The champions will automatically qualify for the women’s volleyball competition at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, while the top three teams will earn places at the 2027 Women’s Volleyball World Championship.


Thailand hold clear advantage in rankings

Thailand enter the competition ranked 17th in the world with 189.26 ranking points. They are the third-highest-ranked Asian side in the tournament, behind Japan and China.

Australia are ranked 80th with 46.67 points, leaving a difference of 63 places and more than 142 ranking points between the two teams.

Thailand also have a commanding head-to-head record against Australia. In five senior international meetings verified since 2013, Thailand have won every match without dropping a set.
