Thailand win 2026 Asian Games team eventing gold after 28 years

Thailand ended a 28-year wait for Asian Games team eventing gold in Japan on Wednesday (September 23), reclaiming the title last won at Bangkok 1998 and delivering the country’s fifth gold medal at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Thai rider Woraphat Sittiju also claimed individual silver, adding a second medal to Thailand’s eventing campaign at the 20th Asian Games.
Four Thai riders combine for team eventing gold
Thailand’s eventing team finished with 109.90 penalty points across the three phases to secure the 2026 Asian Games title. The gold-medal quartet comprised:
- Korntawat Samran, riding B.Grimm Billy Elmy.
- Maj Supap Khaw-Ngam, riding Vinetto 3.
- Woraphat Sittiju, riding B.Grimm Uster de Chanay.
- Weerapat Pitakanonda, riding B.Grimm Carnival March.
Woraphat takes silver behind China’s Hua Tian
Woraphat rode B.Grimm Uster de Chanay to second place in individual eventing at the 2026 Asian Games, finishing with 30.10 penalty points. China’s Hua Tian secured gold, while Japan’s Yoshiaki Oiwa completed the podium with bronze.
Thailand regain team title last won at Bangkok 1998
Thailand’s previous Asian Games team eventing title came at Bangkok 1998, when Fuangvich Aniruth-Deva, Vithai Laithomya, Nagone Kamolsiri and Mana Sonkratok formed the gold-medal team.
Thailand’s individual eventing medal record also includes silver and bronze in 1998, followed by gold for Pongsiree Bunluewong in 2002.
Korntawat also won individual eventing silver at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, before contributing to Thailand’s team triumph in Japan.
