Bangkok ranked second in Agoda’s 2026 list of Asia’s most revisited destinations, behind Tokyo, while five Thai cities retained their places in the domestic top five.

  • Bangkok has been named the second most revisited destination in Asia, according to a ranking by the digital travel platform Agoda.
  • The study, based on accommodation bookings from the first half of 2026, placed Tokyo in first position and Bali in third.
  • This is the second consecutive year that Bangkok has featured in the top three for repeat visitors.
  • Within Thailand, Bangkok also holds the top spot for the most repeat visits, ahead of Phuket and Pattaya.

Bangkok ranked second among Asia’s most revisited destinations in Agoda’s latest Repeat Visitor Ranking, behind Tokyo and ahead of Bali, based on accommodation bookings made during the first half of 2026.

The digital travel platform released its ranking on Tuesday (September 8), with Bangkok remaining in the top three for a second consecutive year. Tokyo took first place, while Bali entered the top three for the first time in third place.

Seoul and Osaka ranked fourth and fifth respectively, followed by Da Nang, Kuala Lumpur, Fukuoka, Taipei and Johor Bahru to complete the top 10.

Within Thailand, Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai retained the top five places for repeat visits for the second year running, with all five destinations maintaining the same positions as last year.

Agoda attributed their appeal to different travel preferences. Bangkok serves as a base for regional wellness trips, while Phuket attracts travellers looking for long stays and workations. Pattaya appeals to families, Chiang Mai caters to slow travellers and digital nomads, and Hat Yai remains a popular weekend destination, particularly for visitors from Malaysia and Singapore.

Japan and Vietnam also emerged as notable destinations for repeat travel this year. Fukuoka made its debut in Asia’s top 10, reflecting growing interest in Japan’s secondary cities. Known locally as Hakata, the city offers draws including tonkotsu ramen and a lively street-food culture, along with convenient access to other parts of Kyushu.

Da Nang, meanwhile, climbed two places to sixth. Agoda highlighted the Vietnamese city’s beaches, proximity to UNESCO-listed Hoi An and value for money as factors encouraging travellers to return.

The platform noted that repeat travel can be driven by a desire to discover new attractions, return to favourite places or simply enjoy familiar surroundings. Its booking data also showed that some travellers returned to the same destinations several times during the first half of the year.

“Travel is becoming less about ticking destinations off a list and more about finding places worth returning to,” Akaporn Rodkong, Country Director, Thailand and Indochina at Agoda, said.

“A repeat visit does not necessarily mean repeating the same trip. Travellers may return to a familiar city for a favourite restaurant or neighbourhood while discovering something new each time,” she added.
