The Chinese Embassy in Thailand has issued an advisory to Chinese citizens planning to travel to Thailand for cultural and sporting events.
Since the start of China’s summer school holidays, Thailand has hosted a wide range of large-scale events, including cultural performances, sporting competitions and artist fan meetings, attracting large numbers of Chinese citizens.
To help ensure safe and orderly travel, the embassy set out the following reminders.
Observe local laws and regulations and attend events in a civilised and orderly manner
While in Thailand, Chinese citizens should strictly observe Thai laws and regulations, respect religious beliefs, customs, traditions and local culture, and follow public-order and venue-management rules.
They should behave responsibly while travelling, treat others courteously and present a positive image of Chinese citizens.
Respect local people and help preserve the longstanding Thai-Chinese friendship
In their interactions with Thai people, Chinese citizens should uphold mutual respect, friendship, equality, openness and inclusiveness, and extend goodwill.
They should cherish and jointly safeguard the longstanding friendship expressed in the saying, “Thais and Chinese are not strangers but brothers and sisters.”
They should also strengthen mutual understanding and friendly exchanges.
Prepare in advance and study event rules
Before travelling, Chinese citizens should study in advance the details and requirements announced by event organisers, including rules on admission, photography, prohibited items and other venue requirements.
These may include bans on bringing outside food and drinks into an event and restrictions in photography areas.
This can help prevent problems when entering or attending an event and avoid detracting from the experience.
Protect rights and interests through reasonable, lawful means and seek help through official channels
If a dispute arises or lawful rights and interests are infringed, Chinese citizens should remain calm and protect their rights reasonably and in accordance with the law.
They should immediately report the matter to event organisers, officials at the venue or local police and contact the Chinese embassy or a Chinese consulate in Thailand for assistance as soon as possible.
In recent years, exchanges and cooperation between Thailand and China in various fields have deepened, while people-to-people contacts have grown steadily closer.
The saying “Thais and Chinese are not strangers but brothers and sisters” is a precious legacy jointly cherished by the peoples of both countries.
