Sushiro’s first US restaurant will use a large display for orders and will not require customers to tip when it opens near New York’s Times Square in October.
Food & Life Companies Ltd. (F&LC), operator of the major Japanese conveyor-belt sushi chain, announced the plan on Monday (August 31).
The layout will provide extensive table seating alongside Japanese-style private rooms.
A shrimp double-cheese roll costing US$14 per plate will be among the dishes adapted to US tastes.
Bigeye tuna and shrimp will be priced at US$5 per plate, while bluefin otoro, or fatty tuna, will cost US$10.
At a press briefing in New York, F&LC President Masahiro Yamamoto characterised the venture as a new challenge after the company’s largely Asia-focused expansion.
He stressed F&LC’s determination to succeed there, describing New York as the world’s largest city and a place from which information spreads globally.
Most of the 331 stores F&LC operated overseas at the end of August were in Asia.
The group had previously opened a Japanese-style izakaya pub in Boston in 2024.
F&LC wants overseas markets to account for 55% of total sales as it targets at least 1 trillion yen in the year to September 2035.
