Cafe Andaman's a charmer
You'll feel like you're cruising on the sea at this delightful restaurant
After a tiring day of swimming and sunbathing, the early evening is best spent relaxing over dinner at Cafe Andaman. Set alongside the main swimming pool at the luxurious Cape Panwa Phuket Hotel, this casual restaurant offers a full selection of European and local dishes as well as home-made desserts with traditional flavours.
Overlooking the hotel’s lush tropical garden, the space has recently been renovated in a style that gives guests the impression they’re cruising on the Andaman but without the discomfort of the waves. The restaurant is relaxing and cosy, furnished with natural wood tables, comfy sofas and chairs and seats 170 without feeling crowded.
“We designed the restaurant to be more trendy. Customers feel like they’re sitting on the deck and they love the view of the gardens,” says Jean-Marie Vallee, Cape Panwa’s food and beverage manager, adding, “we’re open all day, so we offer a variety of dishes that taste good at any time.”
Among Vallee’s recommendations is spicy shrimp paste with boiled vegetables (Bt160) that’s best eaten with steamed rice. Other favourites are phad thai (fried rice noodles served with yellow bean curd, prawns, peanuts and bean sprouts), green chicken curry and sweet and sour chicken.
“We use the best ingredients from the local market and we focus on traditional flavour for both our main dishes and desserts,” Vallee adds.
A refreshing kick comes with the Fueng Fa cocktail, a blend of coconut, pineapple, grenadine and Malibu rum that’s priced at Bt160 or you can enjoy a coffee with a slice of mango tart, a cake, creme brulee and panna cotta. The restaurant also serves 12 home-made Italian Gelato ice creams like blueberry, yoghurt, chocolate, tiramisu, rum raisin and pineapple sherbet for Bt80 a scoop.
