Bar B Q Plaza operator budgets Bt3.2 bn for 4-year expansion

Bar B Q Plaza operator budgets Bt3.2 bn for 4-year expansion

FOOD PASSION CO, the operator of the Bar B Q Plaza, Joom Zap Hut and Hot-Star restaurant chains, is investing at least Bt3.2 billion over four years to branch out both at home and in neighbouring countries.

This Thai company also targets at least Bt6.5 billion in revenue by 2020.
Under its four-year road map, Bar B Q Plaza will continue to be the main revenue contributor at 85 per cent, followed by the overseas business at 9 per cent and Hot-Star fried chicken and other businesses at 6 per cent.
“We have developed the Bar B Q Plaza franchise as a platform to grow in the Southeast Asian market.
“By 2020, we want to operate 30 branches in four neighbouring countries,” said Chataya Supanpong, chief engagement officer.
There are 17 Bar B Q Plazas in Malaysia and two in Indonesia run under joint ventures. The company plans to open one more outlet in each of those countries.
“A new branch in a third country will be revealed next quarter as the negotiations with the local business partner are still under way,” she said.
The company also continues expanding in Thailand.
It will open 20 outlets both in Bangkok and upcountry to drive revenue up 13 per cent to Bt3.38 billion this year, of which 99 per cent or Bt3.34 billion will come from the Bar B Q Plaza business and the remaining Bt35 million from Hot-Star.
Boonyanuch Boonbumrungsub, executive vice president of the Bar B Q Plaza business, said the key reasons behind the giant leap in growth last year was the company’s restructuring, 20-branch expansion and year-around promotional campaigns pitched at existing and new customers.
For this year’s expansion plan, the company has earmarked about Bt810 million for marketing and expansion, divided into Bt630 million for Bar B Q Plaza branch expansion and renovation and Bt180 million for Hot-Star and new brand development.
Chanin Choopojcharoen, executive vice president of the Hot-Star business, said Hot-Star was expected to grow by 5-10 per cent this year.
