UK government sold us out years ago

In his letter lamenting the loss of the verdant British Embassy grounds in Bangkok, Lem Morgan appears to have forgotten that for most British citizens this location has become nothing more than a memory from the distant past.

In their haste to outsource and cheapen everything the government does average citizens’ two main requirements are now dealt with from a building that in every way matches up to his description of “ a dour grey office block in some traffic snarled part of town”. Getting either a new passport or visitor’s visas for your Thai family now require a visit to a private company office, high in the sky off Sukhumvit Road. I’m afraid that once the British Embassy committed itself to outsourcing all of what should have been its “services” and left its citizens with multiple journeys to a central Bangkok location it was always obvious the grounds would be the next victim of austerity cuts.
