More than 800 AI experts and public figures have signed a statement urging a halt to developing AI systems more intelligent than humans.

In his book "Superintelligence", published last year, Oxford philosophy professor Nick Bostrom argues that if machine brains surpass human brains in general intelligence, this new "superintelligence" could replace us as the dominant life form on Earth.
