The Bangkok International Children’s Theatre Festival will return for its fifth edition from August 21–30, presenting 11 productions by artists from nine countries at three venues across the capital.
BICT Fest 2026 will mark the biennial festival’s 10th anniversary under the theme “Play Attention: Look Who’s Growing Up!”, placing play at the centre of performances designed for young children, older children, families and adult audiences.
The festival will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at One Bangkok, the Goethe-Institut Thailand and the Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Arts.
Artists from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand will participate.
“IYKYK”, created by Thai multimedia design collective DuckUnit, will turn a car park into an interactive performance space. Audience members will travel by golf cart through a presentation built around light and shadow.
Belgian company Grensgeval will stage “Plock!”, a contemporary circus production in which performers use their bodies to create a painting inspired by the work of American artist Jackson Pollock.
“Frolic” will feature Thai performers with and without disabilities working with a director from the UK’s Stopgap Dance Company, which specialises in inclusive choreography and movement.
“Kaow Kome” is a multidisciplinary production developed for babies aged three to 24 months and their families.
It explores the place of rice in Japanese and Thai culture through a collaboration between Kyoto-based Bambino! and Ladda Kongdach of Crescent Moon Theatre, a pioneer of baby theatre in Thailand.
An interactive playground provisionally will use play objects made from donated and discarded materials supplied through the Mirror Foundation.
The project was developed by Some Club of Singapore and artists from Taiwan in collaboration with the foundation, following a two-month creative residency at its premises.
Six other indoor and outdoor productions will complete the performance programme.
The festival will also hold six artist-led workshops and a series of post-performance discussions.
BICT Fest 2026 will feature five ticketed productions and six that audiences may attend free of charge.
The complete programme and activity details are available through the festival’s official website, while reservations are open on Eventpop.
The BICT TOGETHER campaign will also accept contributions intended to widen access to the performing arts for children from different social and economic backgrounds.
A BICT TO GIVE contribution costs 2,000 baht and will help bring children to festival performances.
BICT TO GROW contributions of 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 baht will support the festival team and its activities.
