Bangkok issues flood alert along 3 canals on October 12

Bangkok residents along three canals should raise belongings and monitor water levels as the city prepares to receive water from Pathum Thani.

  • Bangkok's city administration issued a flood alert for communities along three canals in the Sai Mai and Khlong Sam Wa districts on October 12.
  • The warning was prompted by planned water inflows from Pathum Thani province, which could raise canal levels and cause overflows.
  • Residents in the affected low-lying areas were advised to monitor water levels and move their belongings to higher ground.
  • City authorities and the Royal Irrigation Department are coordinating to manage water levels and monitor the situation around the clock.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) warned communities along three canals in Sai Mai and Khlong Sam Wa districts on October 12, 2026, to monitor water levels as planned inflows from Pathum Thani could increase the risk of flooding.

The BMA’s Department of Drainage and Sewerage issued the warning as Bangkok prepares to receive water from Khlong Hok Wa Sai Lang in Pathum Thani province into its drainage system. The inflows could raise levels in natural canals and connecting waterways, potentially causing water to overflow into nearby communities.

Communities along three canals under watch

The BMA urged residents in the following canal-side communities and low-lying areas to prepare and keep a close watch on changing water levels.

  • Khlong Song: Sai Mai and Khlong Thanon subdistricts in Sai Mai district.
  • Khlong Phraya Suren: Sai Mai and O Ngoen subdistricts in Sai Mai district, and Sam Wa Tawan Tok subdistrict in Khlong Sam Wa district.
  • Khlong Sam Wa: Sam Wa Tawan Tok and Sam Wa Tawan Ok subdistricts in Khlong Sam Wa district.

Residents urged to raise belongings and check homes

The BMA advised residents beside canals and in low-lying areas to move belongings to higher places and check the structural stability of their homes.

The BMA also urged residents to follow announcements and guidance from city authorities and their district offices. Anyone noticing unusually high water levels or needing assistance should contact their district office immediately.

The Department of Drainage and Sewerage and the Royal Irrigation Department are coordinating water management and monitoring conditions around the clock to minimise the impact on residents.
