Prayoon Pongphan, the park’s chief, issued a statement, saying the park was closed on Saturday and Sunday because strong winds would cause two to three-metre-high waves in the Gulf of Thailand.
He said the situation would be too dangerous for tourists to visit the marine park near Koh Samui in Surat Thani.
Operators of resorts and hotels on Koh Samui’s popular beaches of Chaweng and Lamai also put up red flags warning tourists against getting into the sea on Sunday.
