Songkhla buzzing with tourists as Songkran kicks off
Hat Yai’s Sanaehanusorn Road was busy as tourists, many from Singapore and Malaysia, flocked there to join the fun water splashing activities on the first day of Songkran.
Before heading to the area, which was blocked to traffic, many tourists bought supplies like buckets filled with cold water in preparation for the water fight.
Songkran celebrations, which run until Tuesday, have pushed the price of water-filled plastic buckets up to as much as 650 baht, while a 200-litre bucket filled with ice can go for 1,200 baht apiece.
Vendors in the Songkhla district say Songkran water fights have become expensive due to the rising cost of transportation, water and ice.
