Flood Marks turn river data into early warnings

The Royal Irrigation Department is expanding its Flood Mark system, or “water watch posts”, across the Chao Phraya and Tha Chin river basins.

By turning complex hydrological data into simple, colour-coded warnings, the system can help riverside communities anticipate rising water levels two to three days in advance.

That extra time can make a critical difference. Residents can move their belongings, protect property and prepare for possible flooding.

Flood Marks provide communities with a clear and practical benchmark for when to act — helping replace uncertainty with timely, accessible information.
