The Democrat Party was forced to delete and eventually disable comments after coming under relentless attack from netizens over its alliance with the Pheu Thai Party.
Following the decision to accept the invitation to join the Pheu Thai-led coalition government, with Paetongtarn Shinawatra as prime minister, the party's Facebook page posted a message on August 30, announcing: "The Democrat Party has decided to join the government".
This post was met with a flood of comments from netizens, many of whom expressed disappointment and frustration with the party's decision to join the government. Some comments included sentiments such as, "Enough with this party. I've voted for them since my first election, but now I'm disappointed!", and "Give us back our Democrat Party ideals."
As the number of comments increased, the party's Facebook page eventually disabled the comment section.
On August 31, a chat among Democrat Party staff was leaked, revealing discussions about the situation. One message tagged @All stated, "Most of the people criticising the party are anonymous. We're gradually reporting them to Facebook." Another message said, "Deleted nearly 300 comments this morning. Keep going," along with encouragement, "Keep fighting!"
Finally, the chat included a message informing members of an official channel for feedback, stating: "Every voice matters to us."
The Democrat Party has opened an official channel for receiving feedback through its website: https://form.democrat.or.th/your-voice-matters.
All feedback will be compiled into recommendations and suggestions that will be highly beneficial for the future work of the Democrat Party, the party said.
