Student gunman takes own life after fatal shooting at Nonthaburi school leaves two teachers dead
Two teachers have been killed and at least 15 people injured in a tragic school shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Thailand. The teenage student suspect was found dead at the scene.
A teenage student who opened fire at a prominent secondary school in Nonthaburi province on Friday morning, killing two teachers and injuring at least 15 others, has died after taking his own life.
The shooting unfolded during the morning hours of August 7 at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district, sparking widespread panic among students and staff. Police, paramedics, and rescue workers rushed to the campus to secure the perimeter, safely evacuate those trapped inside, and provide emergency medical assistance.
Initial reports indicate that the attacker was a Mathayom 3 student enrolled at the school. The youth reportedly shot and killed two teachers and left approximately 15 others wounded, including one person who sustained critical injuries. Some local reports suggested the total number of injured could be as high as 20.
Armed police immediately cordoned off the surrounding area to hunt for the suspect, with reports of sporadic clashes occurring whilst he remained hidden inside the school buildings. Authorities later confirmed that the teenager was found dead inside a classroom after deciding to end his own life.
Following the devastating incident, Thailand's Prime Minister issued an urgent directive for Deputy Interior Minister Phonphir Suwannachawi to travel to the scene immediately.
Interior Permanent Secretary Autsit Sampantharat stated that he had briefed the Prime Minister shortly after an awards ceremony in the capital. He also confirmed that the Governor of Nonthaburi had been deployed to the school to oversee the emergency response and determine if further evacuations in the surrounding area were necessary.
The school grounds currently remain locked down as forensic teams and law enforcement clear the area and begin a thorough investigation into the motive behind the attack.
