Sony forecasts record full-year net profit of 1.33 trillion yen

The Japanese group posted record first-half results and has factored about 16 billion yen in costs from July’s earthquake into its revised outlook.

  • Sony has raised its full-year net profit forecast to a record 1.33 trillion yen, up from a previous estimate of 1.21 trillion yen.
  • The upgraded forecast is driven by strong performance and higher revenue from the company's gaming, film, and music divisions.
  • The company also increased its forecasts for full-year sales (to 13 trillion yen) and operating profit (to 1.87 trillion yen), both of which would also be records.
  • This record projection is made despite including costs for equipment repair following an earthquake, indicating strong underlying business performance.

Strength in gaming, film and music prompted Sony Group Corporation to raise its full-year forecasts on Thursday (November 5, 2026).

The Japanese electronics and entertainment group is now on course for a record year.

Higher revenue from gaming helped Sony post its best half-year results for sales, operating profit and net profit in the first six months of its 2026 financial year.

For the year to March 2027, Sony now puts sales at 13 trillion yen and operating profit at 1.87 trillion yen, against earlier estimates of 12.5 trillion yen and 1.72 trillion yen, respectively.

It also lifted its forecast for consolidated net profit from 1.21 trillion yen to 1.33 trillion yen.

If met, all three forecasts would represent full-year records.

Years of investment in entertainment have brought Sony to the point where it is now releasing a hit film each year, chief financial officer Lin Tao told an online news conference.

She also expects the group’s intellectual property business to diversify.

The hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to contribute to group earnings through its film business.

The new forecasts include about 16 billion yen in equipment repair and other costs arising from the powerful earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in south-western Japan in July.

Lin Tao said Sony’s image sensor factory there had recovered from the damage and was operating at the same level as before the quake.
