"The companies have assisted flood victims and the government's activities since floods started ravaging the country three months ago. This is a big issue, requiring supports frmo all. It's time for the private sector to lend help in rehabilitating the country after the water recedes," the coalition said in a statement.
Much of their assistance now covered food and shelters. They see the need for post-flood rehabilitation. After a meeting on Nov 11, they agreed to launch "Power of Thai" campaign to raise funds for the rehabilitation efforts.
The participants are Bangkok Bank, GMM Grammy, Central Group, True Corp, Thai Beverage, Thai Union Frozen Products, BTS Group Holdings, Mitr Phol Group, Major Cineplex Group, Muang Thai Life Assurance, Advanced Info Service, and ICC International.
Open for more members, the campaign will raise funds through 1 million wristbands, to be available at Bt100 apiece. The Bt100 million proceeds would be used as the endowment fund. For more funds, participants agree to introduce "Power of Thai" products, from which partial or entire sale proceeds will go to the fund. The fund raising would continue until mid-2012.
The participants also agreed to share their synergy to complement one another's ongoing activities.
It was reported that over 700 schools nationwide are affected by floods.
