Home Mart first to join discount scheme for flood victims

Home Mart, an authorised dealer of SCG Group, has agreed to a request by the Commerce Ministry's Internal Trade Department to discount construction materials by 15-60 per cent to help flood victims.

The discount campaign is to run from this week until the end of the year, with 211 Home Mart outlets in 19 provinces nationwide joining the programme.
The department’s director-general Vatchari Vimooktayon said yesterday that it had asked many construction-material producers to help ease the costs of flood victims. SCG is the first company that agreed to reduce retail prices of its Cotto brand.
Other producers, including Siam City Cement, TPI and HomePro, are considering offering discounts as well.
Home Mart products that will be discounted include Cotto sanitaryware, by up to 60 per cent, ceramics by 25-60 per cent, and cleaning products by 15 per cent.
Other goods that will also be reduced in price are plastic doors, paint, pipes and corrugated roofing.
Vatchari said the department would also ask furniture and electronic-appliance producers to offer discounts.
In addition, the department plans to spend Bt2 billion to set up low-price fairs under the Blue Flag project nationwide next year as a measure to help reduce the cost of living and stimulate domestic spending.
