Central and eastern Thailand forecast to see isolated heavy rain

Residents are urged to watch for flash floods and runoff, while mariners are warned of waves above 2 metres in thundershowers.

  • The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rain for the Central and Eastern regions of Thailand, including Bangkok, for the next 24 hours.
  • The rain is caused by moist easterly and southeasterly winds coming from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
  • Residents in the affected areas are warned of potential flash floods and runoff due to the heavy rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds.
  • The forecast predicts thundershowers over 60% of the Central and Eastern regions, with a 70% chance in the Bangkok area.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecast that isolated heavy rain would continue in the lower North, the Central region including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the East and the South over the next 24 hours, in an update issued at 5pm on Thursday (October 15, 2026).

Residents in these areas were urged to beware of thundershowers, gusty winds, heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that could cause flash floods and fast-flowing runoff, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and on low-lying land.

A weak high-pressure system, or cool air mass, covers the upper North, the upper Northeast and the South China Sea.

This is causing easterly and southeasterly winds to carry moisture from the South China Sea over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand wave warning

Waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are forecast to exceed 2 metres in areas with thundershowers.

Mariners should check their routes, proceed with caution and avoid sailing through thundershowers.
