Representatives of the Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand, including the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce, the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand, the Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Irish-Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the New Zealand-Thai Chamber of Commerce recently presented Bt258,000 in cash to NAKSUU Tigers (Thai word for ‘Noble Warrior’) to finance its rugby programme “Changing Lives Forever”.
The rugby programme has been running for more than a year and more than 200 children have joined the programme (weekly attendance averages about 100). The children get picked up and dropped off from four different slum communities around the city of Bangkok. The club helps provide opportunities to the kids to achieve more, outside their normal circumstances, discover the passion for the game and dream of what their future might become.
Women’s power
General Motors Thailand’s employee representatives, led by Kanokrat Perngmak who is president of GM Women’s Council, and Witaya Wongaree, general director of Press and Body Shop, General Motors Thailand, recently joined the Royal Thai Navy to help distribute fresh drinking water to flood victims in Don Muang district. A total of 24,000 bottles of fresh drinking water were distributed. GM also donated a boat built by its employees to the flood victims.
“Although, we are just a small group of career women, we are very determined to help the flood victims. As a Thai, I sincerely hope that Thailand will quickly overcome this crisis and we will get back on our feet again,” said Kanokrat.
The activity is in line with GM Thailand’s and Chevrolet Sales Thailand’s commitment to reach out to flood-affected communities and people.
Help for toilets
American Standard B&K (Thailand) is extending help to flood victims through a free toilet inspection service.
Under the toilet recovery campaign, a team of experts is dispatched to flood-hit areas, starting with Nakhon Sawan, which was the first among severely hit provinces to turn dry. The experts will provide a free inspection service and in case any replacement is necessary, the company is offering a 50-per-cent discount on its products. Sanitaryware management manual is also available free of charge.
Craig McEachern, managing director of the company, said the service would be available in other provinces later on. – The Nation
