The draft of the 2012-16 telecom master plan outlines six measures to move the industry forward, commissioner Suthiphon Thaveechaiyagarn said.
The six measures are promotion of competition, spectrum licensing and reduction of market-entry barriers, maximum use of telecom resources, universal service promotion, consumer protection, and preparation of the telecom industry for the Asean Economic Community.
The NBTC has already approved the draft master plans for spectrum management and broadcasting.
The commission by secret vote yesterday selected Takorn Tantasit, its acting secretary-general, as its secretary-general, as had been expected.
There are 11 commissioners but chairman Thares Punsri reportedly abstained. Takorn reportedly won by a score of eight out of 10. NBTC spokeswoman Supinya Klangnarong said Takorn won with the highest score and his appointment was expected to take effect early in the new year.
The NBTC called in the nine finalists to present their visions before making the selection. One candidate was a no-show.
The secretary-general will hold office for five years and will be responsible for the work performance of the Office of the NBTC. He will be directly answerable to the NBTC chairman.
