Japanese investors keep faith in Thailand

Thailand is still an attractive country for Japanese investors thanks to its good infrastructure and facilities, but conerns remain about the lack of concrete preventve measures to prevent floods,Yukio Edano, Japan's miniter of economy, trade and industry

Edano is in Bangkok for meetings with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul.

Japan has gained much experience from the earthquake. Its government is trying to implement rehabilitation plans but the public may feel it is moving very slowly. Thailand also might be finding itself in this situation, he said.

Thailand can hopefully recover fully from the flood crisis, he said.

"Japan is ready to cooperate with Thailand in rehabilitating the country after the floods and it is also ready to share its experiences on flood prevention so they could grow together," he said.

The two countries will surely find a joint solution to contain the massive flooding in the future, he said.

According to the Board of Investment, Japanese investment in Thailand jumped 54 per cent to Bt187 billion with 543 projects last year.

Japan remained the biggest foreign investor, accounting for 40 per cent of total foreign direct investment.
